I've spent the last 15 years dedicated to Microsoft technology (more specifically .NET). This project required several things to get off the ground. Since I didn't want to spend anything on the underlying technology without first proving that it would work fine, I decided to settle on the LAMP/MAMP technology stack. This required that I learn how to administer Apache; code in PHP, Javascript, JQuery, Ajax, and the latest HTML and CSS; deploy to systems that I don't expressly control; and do so in my "spare" time. The only thing that I didn't have to learn/relearn was SQL - although the mysqli syntax took a few minutes to understand. And now, the beta is up. Don't get too excited, its still not 100% functional yet. The live stats recording is the meat and potatoes and its taking a little longer than i would like. Fortunately, our first game of the season is postponed due to bad weather, giving me another week to get it up and running. If you haven't already contacted me about the beta and still want to check it out, drop me a line and I'll get you up and running. If you don't want to mess around with real data, I can set you up in the sandbox that I use while coding.
Many, many, many thanks to the North Paulding Lacrosse organization. They have generously volunteered to be my primary beta partner during this process (helps when your child plays on one of their teams). Regardless, if I can make this software commercially viable, they will never want for statistics software.
During the beta period, you should expect many changes to the software as I fix bugs, add new features, and make it look much better than it currently does. I'll be adding a backup feature as soon as I can to minimize the risk of data loss on the part of my beta testers. I'll be adding posts here to outline changes that are done, so check back often, especially if I break something that previously worked (yes it does happen).
